Our Story

Our story — the heart of Just A Wish

Inside the Just A Wish shop, warm hippie treasures and textiles

Just A Wish began as exactly that—a wish to bring some magic back from far away lands to the Garden Route. We travel, we hand-pick, we haggle in markets at sunrise, and we bring it all home for you.

And so through dusty exploration and over many cups of sweet tea, Just a Wish was born. A way to share the wealth of beauty that is to be found in corners of the earth that are different from our own. A way to share just a slice of the eternal friendships forged between strangers who become family.

Inspired by Spanish street markets scoured more than 30 years ago, and the passion for carefully crafted wares was strengthened by the rural streets of Africa, the emerald forests in Central America and the translucent waters of Southeast Asia. Just a Wish has been importing carefully selected items of interest from abroad since 2002: textiles, jewellery, clothing, Djembe drums, home décor, furniture – all these have made an appearance in our stores over the ensuing years.

Things come and things go, as do the tides, but we remain ever committed to the upliftment of the communities we support, and our loyal customers who make it all possible.

How we do things.

01

Hand-Picked

Every piece is chosen one by one — by feel, story and soul.

02

Slow-Made

We work with small workshops and family looms, never factories.

03

Fairly Sourced

Honest trade, paid prices, and long relationships with our makers.

04

Loved Twice

Once when it's made. Again when it finds its way home with you.

A note from us

Thank you for wondering in.

Every customer becomes part of the story — the one we'll be telling on the next dusty afternoon, in the next market, far from home.
